Competition-Bentley Systems
School of the Future Project
|
 |
The School Design of the Future project provides real
world, computer aided design software to selected middle schools participating
in the Future City Competition or to high schools in the Philadelphia Future
City Region. The project will
introduce students to basic computer aided design, (CAD), principles used in the
building industry. The Bentley
Education Network and the Bentley MicroStation Professional Users Community will
serve as technical advisors to assist students as the student teams design their
school of the future.
Middle school student teams have developed a city of the future as part of
the Future City Competition. Since
the students are familiar with their envisioned schools of the future, the
School of the Future may be chosen from one of the schools represented in their
computer model. This regional
competition will provide them an opportunity to express their ideas on the
design and functionality of a future school.
High school students participating in the School of the Future project are
required to specify the following:
-
Year
of school construction
-
School
location (urban, central city, suburban, rural, etc)
-
Geographic
location
The competition is team based. Each
team will consist of students, a teacher-sponsor and a technical advisor.
The
Future
City
competition is open to 7th and 8th grade students.
High school students participating in the School of the Future project
are not eligible to compete in the Future City Competition.
Each student team will design a School of the Future using the
Bentley MicroStation software. Schools
of the future should provide environments that are not only energy efficient,
but also healthy, comfortable, well lit and contain the amenities needed for a
quality education.
The School of the Future timeline is compatible with the Regional
Future City Competition, September – January.
